Commander Sergio Gómez Roca was born on June 7, 1942, in Salta. He was an officer in the Argentine Navy and commander of the Aviso ARA Alférez Sobral during the Falklands War. Important Role in the War Gómez Roca led the rescue mission for the crew of an Argentine Air Force Canberra bomber, shot down north of the San Carlos Strait on May 1, 1982. His role was key in trying to save his comrades in an extremely risky operation, displaying leadership and courage in the face of the enemy.
