Deep within the Appalachian wilderness of 1856, the Whitaker Settlement vanished without explanation. Local records, discovered in a courthouse basement in 1923, speak of strange lights and unexplained sounds that preceded the disappearance. Only the minister's leather-bound diary remained, its final entry inexplicably dated 1857.
