> Hello students, Today I am going to explain the topic Crop Production and Management. Crops are plants that are grown on a large scale to meet the food requirements of humans and animals. In India, we grow different crops in different seasons. For example: Kharif crops like rice, maize, and cotton are sown in the rainy season. Rabi crops like wheat, mustard, and gram are sown in the winter season. For growing crops, farmers follow some important agricultural practices. These include: 1. Preparation of Soil – The soil is loosened and turned by ploughing. Then it is leveled and manures are added to improve fertility. 2. Sowing – Seeds of good quality are selected and sown either by hand or with seed drills. 3. Adding Manure and Fertilizers – These provide essential nutrients to the soil and help crops grow better. 4. Irrigation – Water is supplied to crops by traditional methods like moat and rahat, or by modern methods like sprinkler and drip system. 5. Protection from Weeds – Weeds are unwanted plants that compete with crops. They are removed by weeding or using weedicides. 6. Harvesting – Once the crop is mature, it is harvested either manually by sickle or with machines like harvesters. 7. Storage – Finally, grains are stored in silos, granaries, or godowns to protect them from insects, pests, and moisture. Apart from crops, farmers also rear animals like cows, buffaloes, poultry, and fish. This practice is called Animal Husbandry, and it provides us with milk, eggs, meat, honey, and silk. So, crop production and management is all about growing crops systematically and storing them properly to feed our population.
