Why are Redcoats Red?
It's all about dye.
Back in the day, red dye was the cheapest and most readily available option for dyeing fabric. It came from a bug called the cochineal which produced a brilliant crimson color.
Now, the British military needed to outfit a lot of soldiers, and they wanted to look sharp and intimidating. Red was the way to go.
