Early fifteenth century, a ruled vellum leaf lies on a bench beside a straightedge and a small pot of ink. A right hand draws a stem and serrated leaf, then sets down compact lines of script in even rows. A quire mark sits low in the margin, faint but deliberate. The paint is not yet added.
