This newborn was at first named Atman or Ataman, but later he became famous by the name Osman. It is narrated that before his birth, Halime Hatun saw a dream in which a radiant tree rose to the heavens, and under its shade appeared the seas, the mountains, and the lands of the earth. This dream was a divine sign that her son would one day become the founder of a great empire. At the same time, some elders declared: "This is the child whose spearhead will expand the frontiers of Allah’s religion."
