Hey everyone, welcome to my deep dive. This time we're looking at how entertainment impacts animal welfare. Yeah, around the world even. It is global and we've got a ton of sources for this one. Oh yeah. A research paper, some news articles, and even reports from organizations working to make things better for animals. Should be interesting. Definitely eye-opening, that's for sure. Just one statistic really got to me. Something like 50,000 animals are used for entertainment globally. Wow. Yeah, it's hard to wrap your head around, right? It is, and it gets even more complicated when you start thinking about the ethics of it all. Why? Bullfighting. Yeah, bullfighting. Something like 20,000 to 30,000 bulls are killed every year in bullfights. It's a lot. It is, and the issues go way beyond bullfighting. We're talking all kinds of animals across a bunch of different industries. So, where do we even start? I mean, where's the biggest clash between animal welfare and entertainment? Well, it might surprise you, but the USA is a really interesting case. On the one hand, they've got a ton of pets. Oh yeah, for sure. Like 70 million dogs. Wow. And 74 million cats. I feel like my social media feeds are all pet photos these days. Right. But those cute photos don't tell the whole story. I guess not. Because on the other hand, about 10 million animals die every year in the US from abuse and cruelty. Really? Yeah, and a full 71% of those reported cases are pets. So, we love our furry friends, but millions are still suffering. Exactly. It's a weird contradiction. It is.
