But as he arrived, he saw a crocodile lying in the water. The crocodile smiled and said, "I've been waiting for you, Kancil. I'm hungry." Kancil thought quickly. He said, "Before you eat me, the king asked me to count all the crocodiles in this river." The crocodile was curious. "Why?" "So he can send food for you all. But I need your help. Call all the crocodiles to line up across the river, so I can count you one by one." The crocodiles agreed. They lined up, and Kancil jumped on their backs: "One, two, three..." until he reached the other side. Then he laughed, "Thank you, my friends. I'm not here to count, I'm here to cross safely!" And with that, Kancil ran into the forest, leaving the angry crocodiles behind.
