Mercy Shack As far back as Doreen can remember, she invariably attended church and was part of a religious fellowship. This has regularly been who she was and what she does; it was encoded in her DNA. Placed there in those formative years by the Matriarchs of the small villages she'd grown up in, Jamaica, West Indies. Therefore, wherever her butterfly spirit takes her throughout the years, near or far, one of the first things she'd search for is a church. One that reflects the values and teachings she has come to admire and trust. That God of Love, a God of mercy, and an all-powerful God, she’s come to know and love. The onset of this spiritual journey began in those early years, when life had a different meaning, and the recesses of her mind were pliable as the tender bark of a tree. Back then, messages of God's words were conveyed in a manner that could easily be comprehended within the rhythmic sounds of praise, accompanied by the pulsating beats of the drums. Drums that would crescendo as women danced wildly around them, their bodies seeming to lose control to the hypnotic sounds during worship. Those were moments of what was termed 'deliverance sermons' that pulled Doreen into their very core; she became lost in them.
