Right. Every RTA is automatically a medico-legal case. So when a victim is brought to the hospital, the doctor must inform the police and record injuries clearly. Then, the legal process kicks in—starting with the First Information Report, or FIR. That depends on the situation. If someone was driving recklessly but no one was hurt, Section 279 IPC applies—it deals with rash driving. But if someone gets injured or killed, we’re looking at Sections 337, 338, or even 304A IPC for causing hurt or death by negligence.
