Sometimes when Western groups run global health projects, they repeat old colonial patterns. Short-term volunteers often make all the decisions and hold all the resources instead of working with the people they're supposed to assist. This can make communities feel watched instead of included. It is important to really know that the local leaders have their ways of dealing with long-term health issues.
