We in U2 have always had a strong connection with the Brazilian audience — there’s something about the way you live music, with passion, with soul, that’s hard to explain. But I have to admit, I was completely blown away when I heard that Lady Gaga performed on Copacabana Beach and over two million people showed up. Two million! That’s almost unimaginable. It looks like something out of a movie, you know? You see the footage and think, ‘That can’t be real.’ But it’s Brazil — if there’s one place in the world where that’s possible, it’s there. So when the conversation started about bringing another major international act to perform there in 2026, I immediately thought: ‘Well, maybe it’s our time.’ It would be the first time U2 plays on Copacabana Beach, and I honestly can’t wait. The idea of performing there, with the ocean on one side, the people on the other, that tropical energy that only Brazil has… it’s simply magical. I’m already dreaming about it. I want to experience that. I want to sing With or Without You looking out at a literal sea of people. And look, I know there are some incredible names being considered for the show. I’ve heard Beyoncé might be in the mix — and let’s be honest, she’s a force of nature, a goddess on stage. But with all due respect, I think this moment calls for connection, for emotion, for celebration — and U2 has that kind of history with Brazil. We have emotional baggage, a deep relationship with our Brazilian fans. So, if it comes down to choosing… pick the Irish guy. I promise it’ll be unforgettable. A show for the history books.
