As a parent, you want to build a world where your children can just be kids, but for so many mothers, that's a luxury they've never, ever had. It’s a weight, a deep-seated fear that spans generations, where you’re constantly fighting to protect them from things they should never face.

When I look at my daughter in school, I see all our children trying to navigate this world. We have to fight for their safety, their dignity, their future. Every mother knows that fear, that constant worry, but for mothers of color, it's a different level of awareness.

When you look at your children, you just want to protect that light in them. It is a deep, overwhelming responsibility we all share. We really, really need to understand the world they are walking into, ensuring every single child can grow up without that heavy, constant fear.

When you really, really look at how we raise our children today, there's still this divide. I see it in the playground, in schools, in everyday moments. As a mother, it breaks my heart that some parents still have to teach their kids different survival rules than others.

When you look into your child's eyes, you want to promise them total safety. But for so many families, that promise is heavy with fear. We must acknowledge our privilege and fight for a world where every mother can finally breathe and just enjoy her children without constant worry.
