Soldier (Team Fortress 2)
بواسطة ari webb-bryantThe Soldier is a crazed gun-toating mercenary useful in almost any situation. He is a generalist offense class with powerful weapons, the second-largest health pool in the game and plenty of mobility options.
The Soldier’s primary weapon is a rocket launcher that shoots slow-moving rockets that deal large amounts of damage in an area. These rockets have damage fall-off at long range and can deal self-damage to the Soldier himself which can be either a hindrance or an aid depending on circumstance. His secondary weapons are varied, ranging from hitscan backup weapons to passive mobility options. These options complement the Soldier's abilities providing a finishing tool or extra rocket jumps.
Perhaps Soldier's most iconic ability is his rocket jump. Rocket jumps exploit the self-damage and self-knockback from the Soldier's rockets to propel himself large distances in almost any direction. Multiple rocket blasts can extend the distance of a single rocket jump allowing for fast, map-spanning trips. These jumps range from super quick vertical trips to the nearest health pack or objective to horizontal jumps to high ground and everything in between. To aid this, the Soldier has a 60% resistance to his rocket blasts.
The Soldier's many great attributes including his large health pool, great damage output and high-speed mobility make him one of the best generalist classes in the game, and taking advantage of these attributes can turn the Soldier into one of the greatest threats the battlefield has ever seen.
The Soldier is voiced by Rick May. If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight! ...Sun Tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little more about fighting than you do pal, because he invented it. And then he perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honor! Then, he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on Earth, and then he herded them onto a boat, and then he beat the crap out of every single one! *sinister laugh* And from that day forward, anytime a bunch of animals are together in one place, it's called a ZOO! ...Unless it's a farm! Though he wanted desperately to fight in World War 2, the Soldier was rejected from every branch of the U.S. military. Undaunted, he bought his own ticket to Europe. After arriving and finally locating Poland, the Soldier taught himself how to load and fire a variety of weapons before embarking on a Nazi killing spree for which he was awarded several medals that he designed and made himself. His rampage ended immediately upon hearing about the end of the war in 1949. „

~ Soldier's official motto
Mr. Jane Doe, better known as the Soldier, is one of the main protagonists in Valve Corporation's Team Fortress franchise.
A crazed patriot from Midwest, USA, he is tough, durable, and well-armed, being capable on both offense and defense and is also a great starter class for players so that they could be familiar with Team Fortress 2. Being xenophobic and jingoistic, the Soldier has an extreme hatred of foreigners and hippies.
He is the former-roommate and former-arch nemesis of Merasmus and the lover (and later husband) of Zhanna, the sister of the Heavy, who became the Soldier's brother-in-law. From his marriage to Zhanna, the Soldier became the father of two children, with a son named General Patton Doe and a daughter named Georgia Washington Doe.
He was voiced by the late Rick May, who also voiced Andross in Star Fox 64, with Nolan North giving one brief line in "Expiration Date". Overview
The Soldier is well known for his spectacular rocket jump. In defiance of all common sense and judgment, the Soldier can detonate a rocket at his feet and launch himself skyward at the cost of some health. This ability allows the Soldier to pop up in unexpected places and reach areas off-limits even to the Scout's double jump.
The two grenades on the Soldier's character model cannot be used unless the player finishes the Kamikaze taunt, which can only be used when the Equalizer or the Escape Plan are equipped.
While most if not all of the characters in Team Fortress 2 are mentally unstable, he is one of the two that seem to be completely insane (along with the Pyro). This is demonstrated in his Meet the Team video where he talks to the heads of decapitated BLU mercenaries, as well as to his "war buddies", which are actually cardboard cutouts that he talks to in the TF2 comic Grordbort`s Crash, where he named them Salty Pete, Iron Eye, Pepper Pot Pete, Peter Pepper-Pants, and Salsa Pete.
The Soldier "claims" his name is Mr. "Jane Doe" despite that name being used for unidentified corpses of women, instead of John Doe, the male equivalent. In the Shadow Boxers comic he is shown to believe his entire team consists of only Americans, even though only he, the Engineer, and the Scout are confirmed to be American (Medic is German, Demoman is Scottish, Heavy is Russian, Spy is French, Sniper is Oceanic, and no one knows the Pyro's nationality)
In Grave Matters, a possible "real" name or just another alias "Barrister Joe" and rank are mentioned by the ghost of his boss Redmond Mann. The Soldier was the basis for many Freak Fortress freaks, such as Painis Cupcake and Rubberfruit.
Personality
The Soldier is a patriotic extremist who strives to fight for his own country and is known to take great pride in his status as an American, even looking down on people from every country that isn’t America, openly insulting the nationality of non-American classes (as his domination quotes contain a number of offensive slurs against the Scottish, the French, the Germans, the Russians, the Australians, and even the Canadians, as he calls the Engineer a "cow-herdin' Canadian" in one such response).
The Soldier treating a collection of heads as "recruits" is a famous example of the Soldier's military fantasy.
The Soldier treating a collection of heads as "recruits" is a famous example of the Soldier's military fantasy.
However his patriotism is the result of his own highly crazed, absurd, buffoonish and delusional behavior, given his self-created military fantasy, which he had built around his own American patriotism, making him a caricature of a jingoistic war fanatic who fails (or refuses) to see even the basics of reality. His insanity even reached a point where he would host tea parties with his "war buddies" (which are technically just wooden cutouts) and collecting heads that he treats as "raw recruits" for war while pretending to be a drill sergeant.

The Soldier explaining his petty reason for killing Tom Jones and expressing no remorse for it, a notable example of his vindictive and spiteful pettiness.
Given how clinically deranged he is, likely due to having drank Teufort's contaminated tap water that may have severely scrambled his brain, this can lead to him committing highly irresponsible, reckless and even spiteful acts that tends to endanger not only his team but also to his employers and even innocent bystanders while completely oblivious to the consequences. Notable examples include traveling to occupied Poland and embarking on an unauthorized "Nazi" killing spree and teleporting bread for three days straight while ignoring explicit warnings (which created the Giant Bread Monster in Expiration Date). As he is also has a strong tendency to be a weaponized agent of pure, unadulterated petty spite, the Solider may tend to commit acts that are done out of his own vindictive pettiness (though not out of malevolence) such as trashing Merasmus' castle to revert it into a raccoon sanctuary while evicting him and much later killed Tom Jones simply because Merasmus was able to live a better life while Soldier had lost everything after being terminated. These acts show that the Soldier has absolutely no qualms in spiting and getting on Merasmus' nerves just to make his life miserable.

Soldier showcasing his lack of intelligence when he made false, bizarre and outright nonsensical claims of Sun Tzu to fit them into his military obsession while expressing complete stubbornness to the fact that his "claims" are incorrect.
While psychopathic in behavior, the Soldier (like the lead-poisoned citizens of Teufort) is not particularly bright and is known to be stupid at times, but in Meet the Spy and later appearances, he tends to act more idiotic and immature (likely due to having gotten lead poisoning from having drank Teufort's chemical-contaminated water). Because of his severe mental impairment, he tends to confuse basic history with wild fabrications, showcasing his lacking of full, clear and proper knowledge, showing just how unintelligent he is; An example is in Meet the Director, where he gave out false, bizarre claims of Sun Tzu that he had written of having punched through a person's ribcage and invented fighting, and in Meet the Soldier, further claimed that Sun Tzu's name is the reason why the word 'Zoo" exists. The Soldier even blended more of his claims with that of Noah’s Ark, leading to a downward spiral in complete utter nonsense, as he would absorb pieces of war history to reshape them to fit in with his aggressive worldview. To add in to his stupidity and ultra-patriotism combined with a superior level of confidence and absolute sense of authority, he showcased how stubborn he is to accept the fact that he is wrong.
As he is so consumed by his own uncontrollable military fantasies and conceiving himself as a "war hero", he is deeply refusing of the truth that he is just a normal civilian, given his past rejection from the US Army (as he was regarded as so mentally unstable to even qualify for national service), and that he is just some loser who is nothing at all. This makes him really paranoid and extremely secretive of his true status, as he would fiercely hide it from anyone, even from his own team and enemies, just to maintain his delusion, which explains why he overcompensates this by yelling out aggressive but broken and completely nonsensical threats when in battle. Moreover, his secretive nature made him isolate himself out of a deep fear of exposure. However, despite his mental instability and his delusion, he is still capable of making friends, as his BLU counterpart was able to form a friendship with the RED Demoman, despite them being on different teams. Even though he tends to keep his status as a civilian from anyone especially his teammates, there can be a very rare time where he would be willing to share it with those he deeply cares and trusts but on the basis that they keep it a secret as well. However, if called out by his civilian status or if it is revealed to others , thus resulting in its exposure, this would ultimately destroy the Soldier's fantasy, something that would make him very furious and vengeful, leading to his instability worsening.
Despite his highly erratic and psychotic nature, the Soldier is strongly supportive of his team and greatly cares for his teammates in which he will help them in dire situations.

History
Born sometime in the early to mid 1920s, Jane Doe was an extremely insane, patriotic and jingoistic individual that wanted nothing more than to serve his country. When America joined World War 2 in 1941, Jane enlisted in every single branch of the military because he wanted to fight so desperately. However, he was rejected from all of them likely for his insanity. Jane Doe was not one to go down easy, though. He bought his own plane ticket to occupied Poland and taught himself how to use weapons and he went on a Nazi-killing spree that lasted until 1949 when he was informed that the war has ended 4 years earlier. During his genocide, Jane went into concentration camps voluntarily and was asked to leave every single one.
He eventually returned to the United States and met the wizard Merasmus, who he became roommates with in his castle. The two weren't the fondest of each other especially on Merasmus' side since Jane stole his stuff many times. However, Merasmus has helped him sometimes, like helping Jane become a lawyer.
Nearly 20 years later, Jane was enlisted into the Gravel War in June of 1968 as their Soldier. It fits him perfectly and was the job he had always wanted. Unlike the other members of his team, the new Soldier seemingly drank Teufort's chemical-contaminated groundwater instead of the bottled water, apparently getting severe lead poisoning, which may have caused him to become stupid and idiotic from the groundwater affecting his brain.
