Good day everyone. My name is Suarez Francisco from the course Understanding the Self under Professor Crista Joy Abogadie.
In this video, I will share my understanding of our topic about Mental Health, Maladjustment, and Human Adjustment.
First, mental health refers to a person’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and behave in our daily lives. For students like us, maintaining good mental health is very important because it helps us handle academic pressure, manage our emotions, and build healthy relationships with others.
Second, mental hygiene refers to the practices that help maintain and improve our mental health. Some examples include managing stress, maintaining positive relationships, and balancing our academic responsibilities with personal time. These practices help us stay emotionally stable and productive.
Another concept in our asynchronous classes is maladjustment, which refers to the difficulty of a person in coping with challenges or adapting to situations. Among students, maladjustment may be caused by academic pressure, family problems, or social influences such as peer pressure and social media. When students experience maladjustment, they may show behaviors such as withdrawal from others, anxiety, or lack of motivation.
In terms of conflicts and frustrations, these are common experiences in life. Conflicts happen when we face difficult choices, while frustration occurs when our goals are blocked. In my experience, I sometimes feel frustrated when I try my best in school but still struggle with difficult subjects. However, I learned that patience and perseverance help me overcome these challenges.

To cope with these situations, people use adjustment mechanisms. Some healthy coping strategies include time management, seeking advice from family or friends, engaging in productive activities, and practicing positive thinking.
Lastly, family life and education play an important role in shaping our personality and behavior. Our family teaches us values such as respect, responsibility, and perseverance, while education helps us develop knowledge, discipline, and social awareness.
In conclusion, understanding mental health and adjustment helps us become more aware of our emotions, behaviors, and coping strategies. These lessons can guide us to become more resilient individuals and responsible future professionals.
Thank you and have a great day.
