WHAT IS CONSIDERED POLLUTION? Pollution is the damage to the environment, that is, the land, water and air, caused by waste, smoke, chemicals, and other harmful substances. These pollutants can be liquid, solid, or gaseous. HOW IS THE ENVIRONMENT POLLUTED? Pollution is mostly caused by human activities: * The use of fossil fuels * Using plastic * Logging wood * The use of chemicals * And other problems caused by us TYPES OF POLLUTION * **Air Pollution:** Caused by the use of fossil fuels, release of toxic gases, industries, smog, etc. * **Water Pollution:** Pouring chemicals into rivers and seas, plastic waste, excessive use of chemicals in industries * **Soil Pollution:** Use of fertilizers and chemicals, waste chemically and physically hazardous materials DAILY ACTIVITIES THAT POLLUTE * Using a lot of plastics * Using a lot of resources (electricity, water) * Using the car a lot for only one person * Throwing away batteries * Not separating or recycling trash * Using cleaning products, cosmetics with microbeads or toxic substances ARE THERE SOLUTIONS FOR THIS POLLUTION? The best way is to make changes in ourselves, taking small actions in how we live. RECYCLING Recycling is when you reuse something instead of throwing it away. Glass, cans, paper, and plastic can all be recycled. Recycling saves energy and also reduces damage to the environment. Many cities have special containers where people can leave their empty bottles and cans for recycling. ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE * Turn off lights and other electrical equipment * Do not pour oil, grease, milk, or chemicals down the sink * Use public transport or your bicycle instead of a car * Buy recycled, reusable, and reliable products * Take shorter showers to drink water * Write on both sides of the paper SAVE OUR PLANET USE ECOLOGICAL PRODUCTS We can contribute to the environment by buying ecological products. Examples: recycled paper, wood from sustainable sources, and organic fruits and vegetables. CONCLUSION It’s time to change our surroundings with small actions to have a cleaner, greener planet with all its beauty.
