Simple PAST TENSE INTRODUCTION The Simple Past Tense (Past Simple) tense is fundamental in the English language as it is used to describe actions that occurred and were completed at a specific time in the past. FORMATION The simple past tense is formed in two ways: 1-Regular verbs: Add-ed to the end of the verb. Example: to play becomes played. 2- Irregular verbs: These verbs change form and must be memorized. Example: to go becomes went STRUCTURE Simple past sentences usually have this structure: Affirmative: Subject + past tense verb + object. Example: “I visited my grandparents. Negative: Subject + did not + base verb. Example: “I did not visit my grandparents.” Interrogative: Did + subject + base verb? Example: “Did you visit your grandparents?” CONCLUSION In conclusion, the Simple Past Tense is a key tense that allows us to communicate about what happened in the past.
