So I was working on this character, you know, and I thought, well, we could go really physical with it, really get into the meat of it. And the director, he says to me, "Let's try something different," and I'm like, yeah, let's push it, let's see what happens.

You know, they once told me I wasn't "menacing enough" for this villain role. I mean, imagine that. The casting director actually said, "Tom, you're just too friendly-looking." Funny how things work out in this industry, isn't it?

And when you're in that moment, and you're completely present and raw and authentic and vulnerable, and it's all happening at once, and you're just there, being truthful and honest and real, that's when the magic really happens.

You know, I went up for this superhero role once, and the director just looked at me and said, "Tom, mate, we need someone more... conventional." I just laughed and said, "Story of my life." That's the thing about this industry - you've got to embrace the nos.

Listen, when you're building a character, right, it's like this sort of physical, psychological soup, yeah? You've got to find these little textures, these sort of dangerous bits and peculiar sounds that make him feel real, make him breathe, you know what I mean?

You know, when you're working on something creative, it's got to be done properly, hasn't it? So sometimes you've got to put things on hold, let them breathe a bit, but the passion's always there, just waiting for the right moment.
