Peace

The city was finally quiet, the war-torn streets now empty and still. A young girl named Amina walked through the desolate landscape, her footsteps echoing off the buildings. She carried a small bouquet of flowers, their petals bruised but still colorful.
As she walked, she noticed a figure in the distance - an old man, sitting on a bench, staring at the horizon. Amina approached him cautiously, unsure if she should interrupt.
The old man looked up, his eyes tired but kind. "Hello, child," he said. "What brings you out today?"
Amina held out the flowers. "I wanted to bring some beauty to this place. It's been so broken for so long."
The old man nodded, taking a flower from the bouquet. "You're bringing more than just beauty," he said. "You're bringing hope."
Together, they sat in silence, watching the sun rise over the city. Amina felt a sense of peace wash over her, a sense of possibility.
The old man spoke up, his voice low and gentle. "Peace isn't just the absence of war. It's the presence of love, of kindness, of beauty in the midst of brokenness."
Amina looked at him, her eyes shining with understanding. "I think I'm starting to understand," she said.
The old man smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "That's where peace begins," he said. "In the small moments, the gentle gestures, the beauty that remains even in the darkest times."
As the sun rose higher in the sky, Amina felt a sense of peace settle over the city, like a soft blanket. It was a fragile thing, but it was there, waiting to grow and flourish.
