Sebastian Garcés puente에 의해Listen, if there’s anyone who makes me feel truly proud, it’s my niece, Sindy Garcés Puente. She’s at such an incredible stage of her life, just 22 years old, but the moment you hear her talk, you realize she’s got a spark and a maturity that most people wish they had at that age. Right now, she’s got her priorities straight with her studies; she spends all her time at the University of Antioquia working hard on her languages. I honestly get amazed sometimes because you see her totally focused with her books and headphones, and then out of nowhere, she starts speaking in tongues, practicing those French or English verbs with such confidence that it makes you feel a bit of "good" envy.
She’s one of those girls who just can’t stay still; you can tell that being at UdeA has really opened her mind because she always has something different to talk about, but it’s not all just studying. Sindy loves making the most of her free time by hanging out with friends, going for walks, and especially finding those hidden little coffee shops around the city, because she’s a total fan of a good cup of coffee. When she’s not hitting the books, you’ll probably find her listening to music or watching movies in their original version, which is like her favorite hobby to keep sharpening her ear.
Mind you, what cracks me up about her is that even though she’s learning so much about foreign cultures, when it comes to food, she’s as Colombian as they come. You could offer her the fanciest dish in the world, but she’s truly crazy for a good bandeja paisa or some crispy chicharrón; I mean, you win her over with traditional food every time. Sindy is a Garcés through and through—hardworking and with a heart of gold—the kind of person who never gives up on anything. You just know that tomorrow you’ll see her succeeding abroad, representing our family name and her university with pride. Honestly, I feel like the luckiest uncle in the world watching her turn into such a professional without ever losing that down-to-earth vibe that has always defined her.
