These creatures are so dangerous that humanity has created a special military organization called the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. Every day, soldiers risk their lives fighting monsters far beyond human understanding. Across Japan, people admire the Defense Force like heroes… especially one woman whose name became famous everywhere — Mina Ashiro.
The screen opens with explosions tearing through a city at night. Smoke rises into the sky while terrified civilians run through broken streets filled with debris and fire. Emergency sirens scream nonstop as helicopters circle above the battlefield. A gigantic Kaiju roars so loudly that nearby windows shatter instantly. Soldiers begin firing missiles toward the creature, but the monster barely reacts. It keeps moving forward like an unstoppable disaster.
Then suddenly…
A female voice calmly gives orders through the communication system.
“Mina Ashiro entering combat range.”
The atmosphere changes instantly.
Soldiers look relieved.
Civilians stare in hope.
Even the fear in the air suddenly weakens.
Mina jumps from the top of a building wearing her black Defense Force suit. Her eyes remain cold and focused while giant cannons open behind her. Without hesitation, she fires directly at the Kaiju’s core. The explosion lights up the entire city like daylight. The monster screams before collapsing to the ground with enough force to shake nearby buildings.
People begin cheering everywhere.
“She defeated it!!”
“Captain Ashiro saved us!!”
News reporters immediately start broadcasting the victory live. Mina’s face appears across giant city screens while civilians celebrate her like a legend. But far away from the battlefield, someone watches silently from a small convenience store television.
Kafka Hibino.
Unlike Mina, Kafka isn’t a hero.
He isn’t famous.
And he definitely isn’t living the dream he once promised himself.
Instead of fighting Kaiju…
He cleans up their dead bodies.
The story shifts toward a disgusting cleanup zone filled with giant Kaiju remains. Workers wearing yellow hazard suits cut through monster flesh while blood covers the streets. The smell is unbearable. Everyone looks exhausted.
Kafka drags a huge chunk of Kaiju skin across the ground while complaining loudly.
“Man… this smell is going to kill me before the Kaiju do.”
The workers laugh at him, but beneath Kafka’s jokes is hidden frustration. His eyes constantly feel tired. Not physically…
Emotionally.
Because every single day he watches others become heroes while he remains stuck cleaning the battlefield after everything is already over.
As the workers continue cutting apart monster remains, a new employee arrives at the cleanup company. His name is Reno Ichikawa. Unlike Kafka, Reno is young, serious, and full of ambition. He clearly hates the cleanup job and doesn’t even try hiding it.
Kafka notices immediately.
“You’ve got the face of someone regretting life choices already.”
Reno responds coldly.
“I’m not staying here long.”
Kafka laughs.
“Yeah? Everyone says that.”
But Reno looks directly into Kafka’s eyes and says something that suddenly changes the mood completely.
“I’m joining the Defense Force.”
Kafka freezes for a second.
Those words hit him harder than expected.
For Reno, becoming a Defense Force soldier is still possible. But for Kafka…
That dream feels long dead.
The two continue cleaning together while Reno explains how he failed the Defense Force exam before but plans to try again this year. Kafka acts casual on the outside, but internally his emotions begin resurfacing. He remembers the promise he made long ago with Mina when they were children.
The story cuts to a flashback.
Young Kafka and young Mina stand together after watching a Kaiju destroy their hometown years earlier. Both children stare at the Defense Force soldiers with admiration in their eyes.
Mina quietly says,
“One day I’m going to defeat Kaiju too.”
Young Kafka immediately smiles.
“Then I’ll fight beside you.”
The two make a childish promise beneath the sunset.
But reality changed everything.
Back in the present, Kafka silently looks at Mina’s latest victory broadcast playing on a giant screen. She achieved everything they once dreamed about together… while he failed completely.
That night, while cleaning another Kaiju corpse, alarms suddenly begin ringing across the area. Workers panic immediately after hearing emergency evacuation orders. A smaller Kaiju appears unexpectedly and bursts through a nearby wall, sending debris flying everywhere.
Everyone runs for their lives.
Reno freezes completely.
This is the first real Kaiju he has ever faced in person. The creature looks horrifying. Blood drips from its mouth while its footsteps shake the ground. Reno’s body refuses to move from fear.
The Kaiju notices him instantly.
It charges directly toward him.
At the last second, Kafka pushes Reno away and takes the impact himself. His body crashes violently into a vehicle while blood splashes across the ground. Reno screams in shock.
Before the monster can attack again, Defense Force soldiers arrive and eliminate it within seconds using overwhelming firepower.
Reno watches the soldiers in complete awe.
Kafka watches them with something far more painful.
Regret.
Later that night, Kafka wakes up inside a hospital room covered in bandages. Rain quietly falls outside the window while the atmosphere becomes calm and emotional. Reno sits beside him silently before finally speaking.
“You still wanted to fight… didn’t you?”
Kafka tries laughing it off, but Reno continues.
“When you looked at the Defense Force earlier… your expression changed.”
Kafka stays quiet.
For years he buried those emotions deep inside himself, convincing himself that his dream was impossible. But hearing Reno talk about chasing the future begins reopening old wounds inside his heart.
Kafka finally admits the truth.
“I gave up.”
His voice sounds empty.
“Mina kept moving forward… and I stayed behind.”
The pain in his expression becomes impossible to ignore now. He doesn’t hate Mina. In fact, he admires her more than anyone. But every achievement she reaches reminds him of his own failure.
Reno suddenly stands up angrily.
“So what?!”
Kafka looks surprised.
“You’re still alive, aren’t you? Then why are you acting like your life already ended?!”
The room falls silent.
Kafka stares at Reno with shock because nobody has spoken to him like that in years.
For the first time in a very long time…
Something inside him starts waking up again.
A dream.
A desire.
Hope.
Kafka slowly begins smiling.
“…Maybe I’ll try again.”
Reno smirks confidently.
“That’s better.”
The emotional atmosphere becomes lighter as the two begin talking normally again. For the first time in years, Kafka feels motivated. He decides that despite his age, despite all his failures, despite everything…
He will try taking the Defense Force exam one last time.
But fate had already chosen a far darker path for him.
Later that night, Kafka stands alone outside the hospital while staring at the city lights. Wind blows softly around him as he quietly thinks about Mina.
“I’m not done yet…”
Suddenly, a strange flying creature appears nearby.
It looks tiny…
But horrifying.
Its body resembles a miniature Kaiju.
Kafka stares at it in confusion.
“What the hell is that thing…?”
Before he can react, the creature suddenly flies directly into his mouth.
Kafka chokes violently.
His eyes widen in pure terror.
Veins begin spreading across his body while unbearable pain consumes him instantly. He collapses onto the ground screaming as his bones start cracking unnaturally. The entire atmosphere becomes disturbing and chaotic.
Inside his body…
Something is changing.
The next morning, Kafka wakes up completely confused. His body feels different somehow. While staring into a mirror, he suddenly notices something horrifying.
His face transforms into a monster.
Kafka screams loudly in absolute panic.
“WHAAAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO ME?!”
The transformation disappears after a few seconds, leaving Kafka breathing heavily in shock. He tries convincing himself it was hallucination… until he accidentally punches a wall apart with superhuman strength.
Kafka freezes.
The realization slowly hits him.
Somehow…
He has become a Kaiju.
And not just any Kaiju.
A monster powerful enough to shake the balance between humanity and destruction forever.
