Hi everyone! Welcome to our podcast where we talk about understanding the self and how it develops over time.
Speaker 2:
Yes! And for today’s episode, we’re diving into something very real and relatable—identity crisis.
Speaker 1:
Especially for us as students, diba? Yung feeling na minsan mapapaisip ka nalang—
“Wait… sino ba talaga ako?”
Speaker 2:
Or “Tama ba yung ginagawa ko sa life?”
If you’ve ever felt lost, confused, or unsure about your path—this episode is for you.
Speaker 1:
And don’t worry, hindi ka nag-iisa. A lot of people our age are going through the same thing.

🧠 2. WHAT IS IDENTITY CRISIS? (3–4 mins)
Speaker 2:
So first, what exactly is identity crisis?
Speaker 1:
Identity crisis is when a person feels confused about who they are—like their values, goals, beliefs, or even their personality.
Speaker 2:
Parang hindi ka sure kung anong gusto mo, kung sino ka, or saan ka papunta.
Speaker 1:
It usually happens during adolescence or young adulthood—so basically, stage natin ngayon.
Speaker 2:
And it’s not just about big decisions like career. Kahit small things—like your style, your circle, or how you act around different people.
Speaker 1:
Like minsan, iba ka with friends, iba ka sa family… then mapapatanong ka,
“Alin ba dun yung totoong ako?”
⸻
📚 3. BACKGROUND (PHILOSOPHICAL + PSYCHOLOGICAL) (4–5 mins)
Speaker 2:
This idea actually goes way back. According to Socrates, “Know thyself.” Meaning, understanding yourself is the key to wisdom.
Speaker 1:
And based on the ideas of John Locke, our identity is shaped by our experiences. So everything we go through—childhood, school, relationships—nakakaapekto sa kung sino tayo.
Speaker 2:
In psychology naman, according to Erik Erikson, we go through different stages in life.
Speaker 1:
And during adolescence, we experience “identity vs. role confusion.”
Speaker 2:
Meaning, we try to figure out who we are. But if we don’t, we feel lost or unsure of ourselves.
Speaker 1:
So basically, identity crisis is not a problem—it’s actually part of development.
Speaker 2:
Parang process siya. Hindi siya overnight na “Ah okay, ito na ako.”
⸻
🌍 4. CONTEXT TODAY (WHY IT HITS HARDER NOW) (4–5 mins)
Speaker 1:
But let’s be real—parang mas intense siya ngayon compared before.
Speaker 2:
Exactly. One major reason? Social media.
Speaker 1:
Platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook—lagi tayong exposed sa “perfect” lives ng iba.
Speaker 2:
And kahit alam natin na curated lang yun, we still compare.
Speaker 1:
Like, “Bakit siya successful na at 20?”
“Bakit ang ganda niya?”
“Bakit parang ang ayos ng life niya?”
Speaker 2:
Meanwhile ikaw, you’re still figuring things out—and that makes you feel behind.
Speaker 1:
Another factor is pressure—from family, school, and society.
Speaker 2:
Especially in Filipino culture, diba?
May expectations like:
“Mag doctor ka,”
“Mag engineer ka,”
“Kailangan practical yung course mo.”
Speaker 1:
Even if deep inside, you’re not sure if that’s what you really want.
Speaker 2:
So ang ending, you start living based on expectations—not your own identity.
⸻
💬 5. REAL-LIFE EXAMPLES (VERY RELATABLE) (4–6 mins)
Speaker 1:
Let’s talk about real-life situations. Kasi dito talaga siya mas nararamdaman.
Speaker 2:
Example 1—career confusion.
Speaker 1:
Like you chose your course because of your parents or friends… not because you truly wanted it.
Speaker 2:
Then suddenly, you feel lost. Parang,
“Tama ba ‘to? Ito ba talaga future ko?”
⸻
Speaker 2:
Example 2—social media identity.
Speaker 1:
Yung you try to act a certain way online para mag-fit in.
Speaker 2:
Like changing your personality, interests, or even opinions just to be accepted.
Speaker 1:
Then later on, mapapaisip ka—
“Ginagawa ko ba ‘to dahil gusto ko, or dahil gusto nila?”
⸻
Speaker 1:
Example 3—friend groups.
Speaker 2:
Yung feeling na kailangan mong makisabay kahit uncomfortable ka.
Speaker 1:
Like laughing at things you don’t find funny, or pretending to like things para lang hindi ka ma-out of place.
⸻
Speaker 2:
And siguro pinaka-real—feeling lost kahit okay naman lahat.
Speaker 1:
Yes! Yung wala namang major problem, pero you still feel empty or confused.
Speaker 2:
Parang may kulang, pero hindi mo ma-explain kung ano.
⸻
🎯 6. PERSONAL REFLECTION (2–3 mins)
Speaker 1:
Personally, I’ve experienced identity crisis when I started questioning my decisions—especially sa path na tinatahak ko.
Speaker 2:
Same. There was a time na I was just going with the flow—sunod lang sa expectations.
Speaker 1:
But I realized, hindi pala ganun dapat. You have to take time to understand yourself.
Speaker 2:
And it’s okay if hindi mo pa alam lahat. Hindi siya race.
Speaker 1:
Identity is something you build over time—not something you instantly figure out.
⸻
🎯 7. CONCLUSION (2 mins)
Speaker 2:
So to summarize, identity crisis is a normal part of growing up.
Speaker 1:
It’s influenced by our experiences, environment, and the people around us.
Speaker 2:
And in today’s world, mas challenging siya because of social media and expectations.
Speaker 1:
But instead of being afraid of it, we can see it as an opportunity.
Speaker 2:
Opportunity to explore, grow, and discover who we truly are.
Speaker 1:
So if you’re feeling lost right now—okay lang yan.
Speaker 2:
You’re not behind. You’re just in the process of becoming.
