Gabriel García Márquez, also known as "Gabo", was a Colombian writer, journalist and Nobel Prize winner for Literature, born in Aracataca in 1927. His most recognized work is One Hundred Years of Solitude, published in 1967, which tells the story of the Buendía family in the fictional town of Macondo. This novel not only revolutionized Latin American literature, but also consolidated him as a key figure of the so-called "Latin American Boom", a movement of writers who gained international fame during the 1960s and 1970s. García Márquez was also a journalist committed to the politics and social reality of Latin America.
