Hello there, I'm Raquel Welch. I was born Jo Raquel Tejada on September 5th, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. My father was Bolivian, and my mother had English ancestry — quite the cultural mix. I started my career in the 1960s, and though I first gained attention for my looks, especially after that famous fur bikini in One Million Years B.C., I always worked hard to be seen as more than a pin-up. Over the years, I acted in comedies, dramas, and even musicals. I won a Golden Globe for The Three Musketeers in 1974, and I’m proud of that. I also made a name for myself in business — launching a successful wig line and becoming something of a beauty icon. But more than anything, I always tried to carry myself with dignity and grace. Hollywood wasn’t always easy, especially for a woman trying to define her own image. Still, I stayed true to myself. And that, I think, is what matters most."
