بواسطة LauraToday I’m going to present Document A, which is an INTERPOL poster about misinformation surrounding COVID-19 vaccines. This document fits perfectly into the theme “Fictions et réalités,” especially in the context of “Tackling viral outbreaks: vaccination and vaccine hesitancy.” It shows how false information can threaten public health during a pandemic.
First, I will describe the document.
This is a poster created by INTERPOL. In the center of the image, we can see several vials of what looks like COVID-19 vaccine along with a syringe. The vials contain a blue liquid, and the labels say “SARS-CoV-2 vaccine,” so we immediately know the topic. Across the image, there is a red banner with the word “Fact” followed by the sentence: “You cannot find legitimate, approved COVID-19 vaccines for sale on the internet.” Below the vials, there are white dice spelling the word “fake,” with the last letter in red. At the bottom left, we see the INTERPOL logo, and at the bottom right, the slogan says: “Be vigilant. Be skeptical. Be safe.”
Now, let me explain the message and why it is important.
The main idea of this document is to warn people that any COVID-19 vaccine offered online is fake. During the pandemic, many criminals tried to sell false vaccines on the internet, taking advantage of fear and confusion. These fake products can be very dangerous because they might contain toxic substances or simply not work at all. The poster uses a strong contrast between the medical imagery, which looks trustworthy, and the word “fake,” which highlights the danger of being misled.
This connects directly to the issue of vaccine hesitancy. When people hear about fake vaccines or see suspicious offers online, they may begin to doubt real vaccination efforts. Misinformation creates confusion and reduces trust in health authorities. INTERPOL’s role here is to protect citizens from criminal activities but also to help limit the spread of misleading information.
Finally, this document links to the bigger picture.
During the COVID-19 crisis, fake news spread quickly, and it became essential to distinguish fact from fiction. By reminding people that real vaccines are never sold online, INTERPOL encourages everyone to be careful, to check sources, and to rely on official information. This helps reinforce trust in vaccination programs, which is necessary to fight viral outbreaks.
To conclude, Document A is a clear illustration of the theme “Fictions et réalités.” It uses a simple but powerful fact to combat dangerous online misinformation. By exposing fake vaccine scams, the poster shows how important it is to stay alert and to trust reliable health authorities.
