GradeAunderA

Intro Narration (Extended, light comedy)
“Alright, let’s start with the big question: what even is the self? Basically, it’s your idea of who you are—your identity, your role in society, your sense of being. Sounds simple, right? But no. Different cultures explain it in completely different ways. Western thought is like, ‘I’m me, I’m independent, I make my own choices, and I’m responsible for myself.’ That’s why you see a lot of talk about personal freedom, individual rights, and ‘be yourself’ slogans.
Meanwhile, Eastern thought takes a different path. Instead of saying you’re a solid, unchanging block of identity, it says you’re relational, always changing, and deeply connected with others and the universe. Basically, less ‘I am the main character,’ and more ‘we’re all part of the same movie.’
So, in this presentation, we’ll look at the general principles of the Eastern self, then break it down in four traditions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. By the end, you’ll see that ‘the self’ is not one fixed thing—it depends on where you’re looking at it from.”
