The Little Cloud Who Couldn't Rain
Once upon a time, in a sky full of big, puffy clouds, there was a small cloud named Nimbus. He was the tiniest cloud you ever saw—fluffy, bright, and shaped a little like a sheep wearing a crown.
All the other clouds had big jobs. Some made thunder. Some threw snowflakes. Some watered gardens and filled rivers. But Nimbus… well, Nimbus had never rained a single drop.
He tried and tried.
He puffed up his chest and turned gray.
He rumbled as loud as he could.
He even practiced his “drip-drip-plop” sound in front of the mirror.
But nothing.
The other clouds didn’t mean to be mean, but sometimes they giggled when Nimbus floated by.
“Aww, he’s just a baby cloud,” said Stratus with a yawn.
Nimbus felt small—even smaller than he was.
So one night, Nimbus floated far away, beyond the cities and trees, over the mountains and seas, until he came to a desert. The sand stretched for miles, dry and golden. No flowers. No trees. Just quiet.
Nimbus was about to turn back when he heard a tiny voice below:
“I wish I could have just one drop of rain,” whispered a cactus, “just one.”
Nimbus blinked. His fluff quivered. He really wanted to help.
He took a deep breath—well, as deep as a cloud can—and squeezed with all his might.
Suddenly...
Drip.
Drop.
Plop.
Three tiny raindrops fell from Nimbus and landed splash! right on the cactus.
The cactus giggled. “That tickled!”
Nimbus looked down. He had done it. He had rained!
It wasn’t a storm. It wasn’t a river. But it was enough.
From that day on, Nimbus didn’t try to be the biggest or loudest cloud. He went where tiny drops mattered most—watering one thirsty flower, filling one small puddle, or helping a lonely ant take a drink.
And the sky? It never laughed again. It just smiled, watching the littlest cloud do the biggest good.
