Jeff Bezos, born on January 12, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a globally recognized American entrepreneur as the founder of Amazon, one of the largest and most successful companies in the world. From an early age, Bezos showed a great interest in science and technology. He grew up in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His professional career began in the world of finance and investments, working at companies such as Fitel, Bankers Trust, and D. E. Shaw & Co., where he served as vice president. It was at this last job that, motivated by the opportunities he saw in the growth of the Internet, he decided to change his course and start his own business. In 1994, Bezos left his job in New York and moved to Seattle, where he founded Amazon.com in his garage. Amazon officially launched on July 5, 1994, as an online bookstore but quickly diversified to offer a variety of products such as electronics, clothing, food, and more. Amazon became the most important online shopping platform in the world, revolutionizing the way people shop. In its early years, Bezos bet on aggressive growth, reinvesting almost all of the company's revenue to expand its reach, allowing it to establish itself as a leader in e-commerce.
