Did you know that in African culture, witchcraft was never considered evil? Before the arrival of colonizers, the concept of witchcraft did not carry negative connotations. Instead, it was a way of expressing deep knowledge, healing abilities, and the power to connect with the spiritual realm. Our ancestors harnessed this power to serve their communities—blessing the land, curing illnesses, protecting families, and communicating with the spirit world. These individuals were not feared or condemned; they were revered as wise and knowledgeable members of society. When colonizers arrived, they encountered this profound spiritual knowledge and felt threatened by it. They understood that as long as we retained our sacred wisdom, we remained resilient and beyond their control. To undermine our power, they distorted our traditions and labelled them with ugly, fearful names. The colonizers branded our seers, healers, spiritual leaders, and herbalists as "witches" and portrayed them as evil. Many were persecuted and killed under the guise of eliminating witchcraft. However, have you ever stopped to question the logic behind these accusations? If these so-called "witches" truly possessed supernatural powers capable of inflicting harm, how could they have been so easily overpowered and killed by the thousands? Wouldn't their supposed powers have made them invincible or, at the very least, dangerous to those attacking them? This contradiction reveals a deeper truth—the real threat was not witchcraft itself but the power of indigenous knowledge that colonizers sought to suppress. Africa was never home to evil sorcerers or harmful practitioners. Our ancestors did not use spiritual knowledge to harm one another. Instead, they taught practical and purposeful applications—using spiritual power for hunting, protection against wild animals, and crafting natural poisons for survival. These practices were rooted in harmony with nature and community well-being. Yet, colonizers demonized these traditions to make us abandon our heritage and embrace their foreign beliefs. Today, more and more people are awakening to the truth. We are rediscovering that what was labelled as "witchcraft" was, in reality, our sacred knowledge—an embodiment of African science, wisdom, and power. There is nothing evil about connecting with nature, aiding others, or listening to the guidance of our ancestors. This power has always been within us, waiting to be reclaimed with pride and dignity. It is time to break free from the colonial mindset and embrace our ancestral wisdom. Your spiritual potential is powerful and rooted in a long history of resilience and enlightenment. My name is Pasca brown, and I challenge every African child to wake up from their slumber and embrace the true essence of who they really are. And for every African to rediscover the power within them. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to like shear and follow for more insight. And may the blessings be.
