Make it say “The power and importance of reading by Luke Bakic 🔊Great readers make great writers. [pause] 🔊Great writers make great communicators. [pause] 🔊Great communicators make great persuaders. [pause] And you know what 🔊great persuaders make? [pause] They make 🔊good societies. [long pause] And that — [pause] — is why I’m here today, [pause] to tell you that 🔊reading is what we need. [long pause] Today, [pause] many conversations revolve around [pause] 🔊games, [pause] 🔊TV shows, [pause] and 🔊social media — [pause] TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and more. [pause] These can be 🔊fun. [pause] They can be 🔊useful. [pause] But studies show that some kids now spend [pause] 🔊six and a half hours a day [pause] on screens. [long pause] That makes me think [pause] it’s time to 🔊pause and reflect. [pause] How do we spend our time? [pause] And what helps our minds 🔊grow? [long pause] Not reading, [pause] over time, [pause] can make our brains 🔊less active [pause] and 🔊less engaged. [pause] Over the past year, [pause] I’ve read many books — Winnetou, [pause] Harry Potter, [pause] Roald Dahl, [pause] and The Unwanteds, [pause] along with many others. [pause] Some I liked less. [pause] Some I liked more. [pause] But 🔊every book took me on an adventure. [long pause] And my family will tell you — [pause] I’m not myself [pause] when I don’t have a good book nearby. [long pause] I read in many places — [pause] in my bed, [pause] while traveling, [pause] in queues, [pause] and at home. [pause] Sometimes, [pause] I find a quiet corner. [pause] No noise. [pause] No distractions. [pause] Reading helps me 🔊slow down. [pause] It helps me 🔊think deeply. [pause] It helps me understand [pause] people, ideas, and stories. [long pause] And that’s why reading matters. [pause] Because it turns 🔊words into understanding. [pause] And 🔊understanding into connection. [long pause] Through books, [pause] I learn how people 🔊think, [pause] 🔊feel, [pause] and 🔊communicate. [long pause] When we read, [pause] we are not just learning words. [pause] We are learning how to 🔊listen, [pause] how to 🔊express ourselves, [pause] and how to build 🔊stronger societies. [long pause] Technology has its place. [pause] But we — [pause] the 🔊young generation — [pause] must hold on to reading. [pause] Because reading is 🔊the key to our kingdom. [long pause] So go out there. [pause] Find a good book. [pause] Not just any book. [pause] The best ones are often recommended by another kid. [long pause] And when you find the one — [pause] 🔊you have to just go for it.”
