There is a well-known story about the great scholar ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Mubārak raḥimahullāh. He was known both for his immense knowledge and his participation in defending the Muslim lands. Someone once criticized those who fought at the frontiers while others remained in worship at the holy sanctuaries. In response, ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Mubārak wrote a heartfelt letter to a devout worshipper in Makkah. He wrote, “O worshipper of the Two Holy Mosques, if you could see us now, you would realize that your worship is but play compared to our struggle. The one whose eyes are moistened with tears should know that our eyes are stained with blood.”When that worshipper received the letter, he read it and wept, saying, “Indeed, Ibn al-Mubārak has spoken the truth and offered sincere advice.” Subḥān Allāh—this story reminds us that while tears of worship are beautiful and beloved to Allah, sometimes greater sacrifice is demanded. Recently, a journalist from Gaza wrote to me saying, “I watch your gatherings of remembrance and knowledge from afar, and I miss those days. Through your videos, we live those moments again.” When I read his message, I felt a deep ache in my heart. How could they be living through us? In truth, it is we who live through them—their courage, their patience, their unshakable faith amidst calamity.
