by babar aliFear is a liar. It tells you that you’ll fail before you even try. It whispers that you’re not good enough, not strong enough, not worthy enough. But today, I came to tell you that fear has no power over a child of God!
God did not create you to live in bondage. He did not call you to shrink back, to live in hesitation, to second-guess every step you take. No! He created you for power, for boldness, and for victory. The Bible says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). That means fear doesn’t come from God—so why are you holding on to something He never gave you?Fear is a prison that locks people away from their full potential. It builds invisible walls that keep them from stepping into new opportunities, trying new things, or believing in themselves. But the truth is, those walls are not real. Fear creates the illusion of captivity, making people think they are stuck, powerless, or unable to move forward. The enemy loves to use fear as a weapon because he knows that a fearful person is a contained person. He knows that as long as someone believes they can’t, they won’t. Fear whispers lies—“You’re not good enough,” “You’re going to fail,” “What if you mess up?”—until those lies become louder than the truth. But here’s the reality: fear has no real power unless it is given permission to operate. It is not a force that can hold someone unless they choose to stay in its grasp.
The reason fear is so powerful is that it operates in the mind. It doesn’t need physical chains because it binds people through their thoughts. It magnifies problems, exaggerates risks, and minimizes ability. It creates a narrative that makes people feel stuck when in reality, they are not. Imagine a person sitting in a jail cell with the door wide open, yet they remain seated, convinced that they are trapped. That is what fear does. It blinds people to the fact that they already have the key to their own freedom. That key is faith, boldness, and the truth of who God says they are. Fear cannot hold a person who refuses to agree with it. The moment someone decides to step beyond fear, they realize it had no real power to begin with.
Fear often disguises itself as wisdom, making people believe they are just being cautious. But there is a difference between wisdom and fear. Wisdom calculates risks and trusts God. Fear avoids risks and trusts in worst-case scenarios. Wisdom listens to the voice of faith, while fear listens to the voice of doubt. Many people remain locked in fear because they mistake it for wisdom. They hesitate, overthink, and second-guess, believing they are being careful when, in reality, they are simply afraid. But fear was never meant to be a guiding force. It was never meant to dictate decisions, determine futures, or define identities.
The key to breaking free from fear is already within. It is the decision to move forward despite fear’s presence. Fear does not have to be absent for faith to operate. Faith is not the absence of fear; it is the refusal to let fear make decisions. Every person has the ability to walk out of fear’s prison the moment they choose to trust God more than their feelings. The chains that once felt so strong suddenly fall away when faith takes the first step. Fear loses its grip when confronted with the truth. It cannot stand in the presence of boldness. It cannot hold someone who refuses to be held. Fear may be a prison, but freedom is always one step of faith away.
