Anna Madgigine Jai Kingsley, originally named Anta Madjiguene Ndiaye, born in 1793 in West Africa, was captured and sold into slavery at the age of 13. Due to the name "Jai" she is sometimes referred to as a princess due to her lineage; her father was a leader among the Wolof people in present-day Senegal.
